Painting and drawing in southern France in a former monastery
from 1 to 8 June and from 31 August to 7 September 2019
Nature as your studio
The landscape has been an important source of inspiration for artists for centuries and in this course we are also going to work on this theme. The hilly area around the 12th-century monastery the Mas Blanc is the starting point of the “Nature workshop”. The panoramic view, the absolute tranquility and the pleasant climate make it a perfect location for outdoor painting and drawing ! You learn to look at the landscape differently by means of specific assignments, such as depth and color effects. In between we regularly discuss the work that has been made. In the afternoon you can apply what you have learned in your own work.

Wim Schot was born in the Netherlands in Beekbergen and studied Painting at the Utrecht School of the Arts (HKU). He lives in Utrecht. He also studied French Literature. He makes beautiful drawings and paintings, sometimes up to 4 meters high. The landscape is an important theme in his work. He is a member of the Education staff at the Rembrandt House Museum in Amsterdam and a lecturer in painting and drawing at the Kunstenhuis in Zeist. He has been coaching the September course on the Mas Blanc for more than 10 years. Wim teaches step by step in a clear fashion, but his way of teaching also stimulates you to find your own subject and style. He tries to trick you into new challenges ! Experience is beautiful, but certainly not required. Once you have completed this course, you will already be looking forward to the next year.
